IELTS Scoring and Bands
IELTS scores range from 0 to 9, including scores with .5 increments, such as 7.5 or 8.5. Each section—listening, writing, reading, and speaking—receives a band score from 0 to 9. The overall band score is computed as the average of all individual scores.
Calculation of IELTS Band Score:
- The overall band score is determined by averaging the scores from all four sections. For instance, if you receive scores of Listening: 7, Reading: 7.5, Writing: 8, and Speaking: 7.5, your overall score would be 7.5 bands.
- In cases where the score ends with .25, the band score is rounded up to the nearest .5. For example, a score of 7.25 is rounded up to 7.5.
- If the score ends with .75, the band score is rounded to the nearest whole band. For instance, a score of 7.75 is rounded to 8.
- If the score falls below .25 or .75, it is rounded down. For example, a score of 7.21 is rounded down to 7 bands.
