3 killed in Chattogram market fire - Bangladesh
Three people lost their lives in a fire that broke out early today at a market in Riaz Uddin Bazar, Chattogram.
Two of the victims were identified as Md Shahed, 18, and Md Ridwan, 45, both from Satkania upazila. The identity of the third victim is yet to be determined.
A 35-year-old woman and a nine-year-old girl fell ill after inhaling smoke and were admitted to the burn and plastic surgery unit at Chattogram Medical College Hospital, according to Rafique Uddin Ahmed, head of the burn unit.
The woman was later moved to the intensive care unit (ICU) as her condition worsened. Neither of the two injured individuals sustained burn injuries, he added.
The fire started in a mobile accessories shop on the first floor of the five-storey Mohammadia Plaza around 1:35 am, reported Abdur Razzaq, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence in Chattogram.
Upon receiving the information, eight fire engines were dispatched to the scene and managed to extinguish the fire by around 5:30 am, he said.
Fire service officials recovered Shahed's body from the scene.
Nurul Alam, in-charge of Chattogram Medical College Hospital's Police Camp, stated that three injured people were brought to the hospital, where Ridwan and the unidentified victim succumbed to their injuries around 8:45 am.
