The European Commission recently unveiled updated Schengen visa regulations tailored for Indian travelers, marking a significant shift. Now, individuals from India have the opportunity to seek long-term multiple-entry visas to European Union (EU) nations. Notably, Indian travelers with a robust travel history can secure Schengen visas with extended validity periods of up to two years.

Indians can also leverage their long-term visas by subsequently applying for 5-year Schengen Visas, extending until the expiration of their passports. This development has been warmly received by Indian citizens and the staff at the German consulate, as highlighted by SchengenVisaInfo.

Increased Travel Demand from India to EU

Germany has observed a notable surge in visa applications from India, indicating growing interest in travel. According to insights shared by German Diplomat George Enzweiler, visa applications soared to 130,000, with approximately 120,000 visas granted in 2023.

Stakeholders within the travel and tourism sector foresee a 15% uptick in enthusiasm among Indian travelers planning visits to EU countries. Nishant Pitti, CEO of the EaseMyTrip platform, reported a 12% rise in the number of Indians intending to journey to Schengen countries.
