A magnitude 4.7 earthquake rattled Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, originating in southeastern Afghanistan, causing tremors felt across Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, North Waziristan, Parachinar, Lower Dir, Hangu, Charsadda, and Swabi.
No immediate reports of damage or casualties were received. The earthquake's depth was recorded at 98 km underground. According to the US Geological Survey, the seismic activity also reverberated in neighboring countries such as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
This incident follows recent earthquake tremors experienced in various Pakistani cities. On March 13, a 5.3 magnitude earthquake shook parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with no reported damages or casualties, as reported by Express News.
The National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC) noted tremors in Islamabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Kohat, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Nowshera, and Sialkot. The epicenter of that earthquake, measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale, was located 130 kilometers underground in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan.
Earlier in the day, a 4.9 magnitude earthquake in Iran's northeastern city of Kashmar resulted in four deaths and injuries, according to state media. The quake struck at 1:24 pm (9:54 am GMT), damaging primarily dilapidated buildings across urban and rural areas of the city, with thirty-five people hospitalized.
