Cypriots Set to Travel Visa-Free to the US Soon

Cypriot passport holders may soon enjoy visa-free travel to the United States, as the final steps for the country's inclusion in the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP) are underway.

A delegation of US representatives is expected to arrive in Cyprus shortly to complete key processes, including system interconnection, paving the way for the agreement's formalization.

Cyprus Meets Eligibility Criteria for Visa Waiver Program

Cyprus has fulfilled the program's stringent requirements, including maintaining a visa rejection rate below the three percent threshold. Recent data shows Cyprus achieved a rejection rate of just 2.16 percent.

Further progress includes improved information sharing with the US government and enhanced cross-border cooperation, particularly between law enforcement agencies. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and US President Joe Biden are expected to sign the agreement before January 20, 2025.

Romania and Bulgaria Also Advancing in Visa Waiver Program

Romania has officially been approved for visa-free US travel starting in 2025, following a reduction in its visa rejection rate to below three percent. This achievement will strengthen the Romanian passport, which currently allows visa-free access to 111 destinations.

Bulgaria is also in the process of meeting the Visa Waiver Program requirements, alongside Cyprus.
