Finland to Fast-Track Student Residence Permit Applications From India, Nepal & UAE This Summer
Key Points:
-
Student residence permit applications will be prioritised by Finnish embassies in India, Nepal, and the UAE during June and July.
-
The move comes in preparation for the upcoming academic year starting in September.
-
Other applicants, including family members, are advised to apply outside of the summer period to avoid delays.
Finland to Prioritise Student Residence Permits in India, Nepal & UAE During Summer Months
To accommodate the start of the new academic year in September, Finnish embassies in New Delhi, Kathmandu, and Abu Dhabi will give priority to student residence permit applications throughout June and July, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland has announced.
This prioritisation may cause delays for other types of applicants, including family members of students.
"Giving priority to students means that their family members may not be able to verify their identity at the same time as the main applicant," the Ministry stated.
Authorities Urge Family Members to Submit Applications Outside Peak Summer Months
The Finnish Foreign Ministry recommends that family members of student visa applicants avoid applying during June and July. Instead, they are encouraged to schedule appointments before or after these months to ensure smoother processing.
Outside of this peak period, the focus will shift back to other categories of applicants.
Eligibility Requirements for Student Residence Permits in Finland
To obtain a student residence permit, applicants must show proof of admission to a Finnish educational institution, with studies leading to a recognised degree or qualification. Students participating in exchange programmes may also qualify.
Those applying with dependents must submit officially translated and legalised documents proving family ties. Additionally, proof of sufficient financial means is required.
