Fresh rules regarding the immigration of skilled workers are now effective.
A recent legislation change has streamlined the process for skilled foreign workers to enter Germany. The second phase of the law took effect on March 1st.
Berlin (dpa/d.de) – Germany implemented the second phase of the Skilled Immigration Act on March 1st. Among its provisions is the introduction of a residency option for foreign nationals based on practical work experience. Going forward, individuals from third countries outside the European Union can seek employment in Germany if they possess a vocational or higher education qualification recognized by their home country and have at least two years of relevant work experience.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and Labour Minister Hubertus Heil hailed the new regulations as pivotal in addressing Germany's skills shortage. "We are streamlining bureaucratic processes and enhancing Germany's appeal to skilled workers from abroad," Faeser remarked. Heil emphasized that the new rules would simplify the process for apprentices and experienced professionals to migrate to Germany. The first phase of the legislation, aimed at facilitating the entry of skilled workers, was implemented in November 2023. The third phase, scheduled for June 2024, will introduce a job search opportunity card.
