German MFA Accused of Involvement in Schengen Visa Scandal

Key Takeaways

1. German Foreign Minister continues to face accusations of involvement in a visa scandal.
2. Allegations suggest that the Minister enabled Afghans, Syrians, and Turks to obtain German Schengen visas using forged documents.
3. Reports imply that some of these individuals might be secret agents.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock is facing ongoing accusations related to a visa scandal, allowing nationals from Afghanistan, Syria, and Türkiye to obtain German Schengen visas with forged documents. Despite Foreign Ministry officials stating that visas were issued according to current regulations and that only 19 cases are under investigation, it has emerged that hundreds of cases are being scrutinized.

Focus magazine reports that Minister Baerbock has been implicated in the scandal since February 2023, with suggestions that some of the individuals involved could be foreign secret agents. The pressure on her and the ministry is mounting as evidence shows numerous foreign nationals entering Germany on Schengen visas obtained through counterfeit documents.

According to Cicero, Minister Baerbock is suspected of facilitating the illegal entry of Pakistanis to Germany through a reception program intended for Afghan nationals.

German Embassy in Islamabad Warns Headquarters

The German Embassy in Islamabad sent an official letter to Berlin headquarters, warning that a family of seven, allegedly from Afghanistan, had received admission promises from the German government. The letter suggested that these individuals might have been deliberately given Afghan nationality and that their entry could have been staged.

"The main person and family may have been deliberately given Afghan identities. There is a strong suspicion that this (the family) is a case staged by Pakistani authorities," stated the German Embassy in Islamabad.

Cicero reported that these individuals could potentially be Pakistani secret agents brought to Germany for a "special purpose." Moreover, several other Syrians, Afghans, and Turks are believed to have entered Germany with questionable documents, with many already applying for asylum.

Investigators are examining hundreds of cases of unauthorized entries and reviewing past decisions that permitted entry on forged documents.

Impact on Turkish Nationals Seeking Appointments

While the investigation continues, Turkish applicants are experiencing difficulties in securing Schengen visa appointment slots. Although the exact reason is unclear, it is believed that the lack of available appointments results from German embassy officials taking measures to prevent further visa scandals.
