Rising Demand for Portugal's D7 Visa
A growing number of U.S. nationals are pursuing Portugal's D7 Visa as a pathway to relocation. According to Ei! Assessoria Migratória, a migration advisory firm, inquiries from Americans about moving to Portugal quadrupled in November compared to the average of the prior three months.
In November alone, 95 inquiries related to visas and residence permits were recorded, with the peak demand occurring on November 4, one day before the U.S. elections. Notably, nearly 90% of these inquiries were focused on the D7 Visa.
The D7 Visa, also referred to as the Portugal Passive Income Visa, provides residency for non-EU nationals with a stable passive income. It is particularly popular among retirees, investors, and others with reliable income sources. Politico reported that 71 inquiries for the D7 Visa were made in the last month.
Interest in Other Visa Options
While the D7 Visa leads in popularity, some Americans are also exploring the D8 Visa, commonly known as the Digital Nomad Visa. This option allows remote workers to apply for either a one-year temporary stay visa or a residence permit, facilitating legal residence in Portugal.
Additionally, there has been an uptick in interest in Portugal’s Golden Visa program among Americans, although specific data on inquiries remain unavailable.
Broader Trend: Americans Seeking EU Relocation
The U.S. presidential election appears to have influenced relocation interest. Following the announcement of Trump’s victory, searches for migration to the EU by American internet users skyrocketed by 1,514%, according to VisaGuide.World.
Portugal, alongside Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain, ranked among the top destinations for Americans. These countries are favored for their affordability, English-friendly environments, and warm climates, offering appealing options for those considering a move abroad.
