In July, a 29-euro transportation ticket for traveling from Berlin will be introduced.
The Berlin senate has announced the imminent release of the city’s 29-euro public transport ticket, scheduled to be available for purchase starting April 23 and valid from July 1, 2024. This marks the reinstatement of the 29-euro ticket, a monthly pass for the AB transport zone in Berlin, following initial concerns about funding. Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) confirmed the revival on April 16, emphasizing its significance for promoting affordable and sustainable mobility. The Mayor’s office announced on X that the ticket will be effective within the Berlin city area from July 1, with sales commencing on April 23. This development is viewed as a crucial step forward in advancing the Verkehrswende (transport transition) towards more sustainable transport services. Despite the discontinuation of the 29-euro ticket following the introduction of the nationwide 49-euro Deutschlandticket in May 2023, the Berlin version will now be available alongside it, with confirmed funding until at least 2026. Instructions on how to obtain a 29-euro ticket for Berlin are provided, including its validity on various transport modes within the A and B transport zones starting July 1, 2024. Those with a Deutschlandticket or another valid ticket in Berlin can switch to the 29-euro subscription when sales begin on April 23, available both online and at BVG service centers. The ticket will be offered as an annual subscription, requiring a 12-month commitment initially, with monthly payments deducted from ticket holders’ bank accounts. Each ticket will be assigned to a specific passenger, permitting the inclusion of one child under six and a dog at no extra cost.
