Lithuania Won’t Accept Residency Applications Via External Services in Lebanon, Jordan & Sri Lanka From March 1

The Lithuanian authorities have announced that starting from March 1, 2024, foreigners will no longer have the possibility to apply for residence permits and visas through external visa providers located in three countries – Lebanon, Jordan, and Sri Lanka.
According to the Ministry of Interior of Lithuania, the decision not to provide these kinds of services in Lebanon, Jordan, and Sri Lanka was taken due to threats to the country’s national security.
After consultation with the authorities regarding threats to national security, external service providers are rejected in Lebanon, Jordan, and Sri Lanka.

In addition to the above-mentioned, the Ministry said that starting from March 1, new rules will also apply to external service providers in India.
External service providers in India will be able to offer services only for certain groups of people applying for a Lithuanian temporary residence permit.
As the Ministry explained, the services for applying for temporary residence permits in India will only be available to Lithuanian family members, highly qualified workers, those being transferred within the company, teachers, students, and researchers.
ISPs will be able to apply for a temporary residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania only on certain grounds established in the Law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners”.

With the newly approved list by Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė, foreigners are currently able to apply for Lithuanian residence permits via external service providers in a total of 31 countries.
According to Lithuanian National Television and Radio, in addition to India, services for residence permits through external service providers are provided in all of the countries listed below:

Based on this newly approved list, foreigners from the above-mentioned countries can submit their temporary residence permit application to the Lithuanian Migration Department through external service providers.
A foreigner may submit an application for a temporary residence permit to the Migration Department while abroad through external service providers.

The external service providers are responsible for only collecting the residence permit applications and submit the Migration Department. Once the latter accepts the applications, it evaluates them and makes a decision to issue a temporary residence permit or not.
Following a positive response from the Migration Department, foreigners can collect their temporary residence permits from the external service provider in the country and then enter Lithuania.
