Meta AI Alert Assists Police in Preventing Suicide of Lucknow Woman
According to the police, a 21-year-old woman in Lucknow was on the verge of suicide when she posted a video of herself with a noose around her neck on social media.
Lucknow: A woman's life was saved in Lucknow thanks to an alert from Meta AI after she attempted suicide, reportedly due to being abandoned by her husband, a police official stated. The police have since arrested the woman's 23-year-old husband.
The police reported that the woman had planned to take her own life and posted a video online showing herself with a noose around her neck.
As the video began to circulate, the Directorate General of Police’s Social Media Centre received an alert from Meta AI, prompting immediate police action. Officers quickly located the village and intervened just in time to prevent the suicide.
ACP Mohanlalganj Rajneesh Verma told PTI Videos, "Around noon on Saturday, an alert was received from Meta AI at the Social Media Centre of the Director General of Police's office, indicating that a young woman was hanging from a noose. Acting swiftly, a police team reached the scene and successfully rescued her." At the time of the incident, the woman's family was unaware of her intentions.
Mr. Verma also revealed that the woman had been in a relationship with a man from a different locality. The couple married in an Arya Samaj temple about four months ago and began living together as husband and wife.
However, as their marriage was not legally valid, the man eventually left her and returned to his home. Distressed by his departure, the woman became mentally stressed and decided to end her life, Mr. Verma explained.
On Saturday, overwhelmed by her situation, she created a noose at home, placed it around her neck, recorded a video, and posted it on social media, expressing her intent to die by suicide. The video quickly went viral, according to the police.
Upon receiving the alert from Meta, the Directorate General of Police office immediately informed the relevant police station. Officers located the woman's village, and a team, including a woman police officer, arrived at the scene.
After speaking with the woman, she was safely removed from the room and counselled by female police officers for about an hour.
The ACP confirmed that the woman is now in good health, and the police are maintaining regular contact with her. He added that a thorough investigation is underway.
Based on the woman's complaint, her husband has been arrested. The matter is being further investigated, and the woman continues to receive counselling.
