PM Modi expresses sadness, Jaishankar deeply shocked: Condolences flow after Kuwait fire tragedy
PM Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Congress leader Kharge, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan, and other dignitaries express condolences following the tragic fire in Kuwait, claiming the lives of at least 49 people, including numerous Indian nationals.
Several leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, took to social media to express their profound sorrow and condolences over the tragic fire in Kuwait that resulted in the loss of at least 49 lives, with around 40 being Indian nationals.
PM Modi described the incident as "saddening" and extended his sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones, while also praying for the swift recovery of the injured. The fire originated in a kitchen within a six-storey building in Mangaf area, located in Kuwait's southern Ahmadi Governorate, early on Wednesday.
In his statement, Jaishankar expressed deep shock at the news of the fire incident in Kuwait City, acknowledging the reported deaths and hospitalizations. He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of those who tragically lost their lives.
Following PM Modi's directive, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh would promptly travel to Kuwait to oversee assistance for the injured and facilitate the early repatriation of the deceased.
The Congress party called upon the MEA to extend all possible aid to the Indian victims and their families, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge expressing anguish over the incident on social media.
Congress leader K C Venugopal emphasized the need for urgent assistance to the injured and advocated for adequate compensation for the victims and their families.
Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leader, conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He underscored the urgent need for ensuring the safety and dignified living conditions of Indian workers in the Middle East.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan appealed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to intervene in the Kuwait fire tragedy, particularly concerning the Malayalees who lost their lives. He described the incident as extremely distressing and urged the Indian Embassy to collaborate with Kuwaiti authorities in relief and rescue efforts.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee instructed her officials to inquire about the well-being of individuals from West Bengal affected by the devastating fire incident in Kuwait.
