Novak Djokovic Expected to Relocate to Greece Under Golden Visa Program
Serbian tennis champion Novak Djokovic is anticipated to move to Greece this September after applying for residency through the Golden Visa Program — a scheme that grants residence rights to foreign nationals who make qualifying investments in the country.
According to a report by Proto Thema, Djokovic will settle in his new home in Athens alongside his wife, Jelena, and their two children, Stefan and Tara. His recent meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has further reinforced reports of his relocation plans.
Longstanding Affection for Greece
Djokovic’s decision to seek residency in Greece is believed to stem from his longstanding admiration for the country. This admiration dates back to 2009, during a match at the Australian Open against Cypriot player Marcos Baghdatis, where he received overwhelming support from Greek and Cypriot fans alike.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this. Rival fans chanting my name together. But we’re Orthodox brothers.”

The connection continued through the years, notably after his victory against Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the 2023 Australian Open final.
“I want to say something about Greece and Serbia. We’re two small countries without a deep tennis tradition. If kids are watching us, let them know that anything is possible. The more challenges you face, the stronger you become. Stefanos and I are proof.”

From Marbella to Athens
As reported by Hello Magazine, the 38-year-old athlete is expected to leave behind his $11.5 million (€10.75 million) luxury mansion in Marbella, Spain. Reports from Protothema.gr suggest that his decision to move may also be influenced by recent political tensions in Serbia. Last year, Djokovic publicly expressed support for student protests against Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić via social media.
