UPDATE: 192 Confirmed Dead, 30 Missing Due to Floods and Landslides Nationwide
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 30
A total of 192 people have lost their lives, and 30 others remain missing due to floods, landslides, and inundation caused by continuous rainfall.
Home Ministry spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari reported that 194 individuals were injured in these natural disasters. He added that over 4,500 affected individuals have been rescued so far, with all security agencies mobilized for search, rescue, and relief operations. Emergency relief supplies, including food, have been distributed to those affected, and the injured are receiving free medical treatment. Efforts are also underway to clear blocked highways to restore traffic.
Deputy Superintendent of the Armed Police Force Shailendra Thapa, who also serves as the joint spokesperson, confirmed that several vehicles were buried in the Jyaplekhola landslide. These include a Tata Winger van (Lu 1 Ja 4578) from Butwal, a Toyota Hiace (Ba 3 Kha 1345) from Chitwan, and two buses—one (Na 4 Kha 2270) from Gorkha and another (Ba 1 Pa 1388).
Narayan Khatri, chair of Gorkha Daraudi Transport Service Pvt Ltd, stated that the bus from Gorkha has been out of contact since Friday night. It departed Lapubesi at 7 a.m. on Friday and was last in contact near Khanikhola, Dhading, around 10 p.m.
DSP Thapa mentioned that the search operation is ongoing as more vehicles may still be buried in the area. Earlier on Saturday, 14 bodies were recovered from two vehicles trapped in the landslide debris. Several vehicles were caught in the landslide, which blocked a major entry route into Kathmandu.
