Air India and IndiGo Run Special Flights to Dhaka, Returning Over 400 Passengers
Air India will resume its regular operations with two daily flights from New Delhi to Dhaka starting Wednesday.
Amid the unrest in Bangladesh's capital, Air India and IndiGo operated special flights to Dhaka, bringing over 400 people back to India.
On Wednesday morning, a special Air India flight transported 205 individuals, including six infants, from Dhaka to New Delhi. Additionally, IndiGo conducted a special flight from Dhaka to Kolkata on Tuesday to repatriate Indian nationals.
The chartered Air India flight, which departed for Dhaka late Tuesday, used an A321 neo aircraft to return 199 adults and six infants. This flight was organized at short notice despite logistical challenges at the airport.
Following the temporary closure of Dhaka's airport, IndiGo's special flight 6E 8503 carried over 200 passengers from Dhaka to Kolkata. The airline announced that normal flights between India and Dhaka would resume on Wednesday and has been in touch with affected passengers to offer updates and alternative arrangements.
IndiGo operates one daily flight from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai to Dhaka, with two daily services from Kolkata. Air India will also start its scheduled flights to Dhaka, with two daily services from the national capital.
On Tuesday, Air India canceled its morning flight but operated the evening flight. Vistara, which had also canceled its flights to Dhaka on Tuesday, will continue its daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi as planned.
The situation in Bangladesh remains volatile following street protests over job quotas that led to the resignation and flight of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
