Revised English Language Standards
The Australian Government has updated the English language prerequisites for Student and Temporary Graduate visas. This adjustment, implemented on December 11, 2023, forms a crucial component of the Australian Migration Strategy. These revisions aim to facilitate international students in gaining a hands-on educational experience in Australia and readying them for the professional workforce.
English Language Requirements for Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV)
- The IELTS test scores have been raised from 6.0 to 6.5, with a minimum score of 5.5 required for each component (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) for the Temporary Graduate visa.
- The validity period for the test results has been reduced from 3 years to 1 year. Applicants for the Temporary Graduate visa must provide proof of completing an English Language test within 1 year before the visa application date.
English Language Requirements for Student Visa
- The IELTS test score requirement has been elevated from 5.5 to 6 for a Student visa.
- For applicants pursuing a packaged ELICOS, the IELTS score requirement has been raised from 4.5 to 5.0.
- There are no alterations for students exclusively studying English through ELICOS.
- Students enrolled in university foundation or pathway programs must achieve an IELTS test score of 5.5.
