Berlin's €29 Ticket Holders to Receive the Deutschlandticket Free of Charge
Berlin’s €29 Ticket Holders to Receive Deutschlandticket at No Extra Cost
Berlin's €29 public transport ticket has been discontinued, but current subscribers can now switch to the Deutschlandticket at no additional charge until their subscription expires.
29-Euro Ticket Holders Eligible for Deutschlandticket
The €29 monthly ticket was unexpectedly scrapped in November due to budget cuts in Berlin, and it has not been available for purchase since December 10. However, the BVG (Berlin Transport Association) has announced that those with active subscriptions can upgrade to the Deutschlandticket for the remainder of their subscription period, regardless of whether they use a chip card or a mobile ticket.
While the €29 ticket was valid for unlimited travel within Berlin’s AB zone, the Deutschlandticket offers expanded benefits, allowing unlimited travel on regional and public transport across Germany.
Subscribers Can Save Ahead of Upcoming Price Increase
Although the €29 ticket required a minimum one-year subscription, those who signed up before December 10 can enjoy the Deutschlandticket at no additional cost for the rest of their subscription period. With the Deutschlandticket set to increase from €49 to €58 per month in January 2025, subscribers benefit significantly from this transition.
“Only after the end of the original subscription period will the new rate of €58 per month apply, unless the contract is canceled,” explained a representative from Berlin's Senate Department for Transport.
Flexible Cancellation Options for Subscribers
For those who prefer not to convert their €29 ticket into a Deutschlandticket, subscriptions can now be canceled at short notice without incurring penalties for the full 12-month term.
“The original twelve-month commitment no longer applies, and there are no additional costs,” confirmed the Senate Department.
This development provides greater flexibility and value for Berlin residents navigating the city’s evolving public transport options.
