Interior Minister Davor Božinović recently highlighted Croatia’s growing reliance on foreign workers due to labor shortages across various sectors. He underscored that these workers are essential for sustaining economic growth and affirmed that they deserve the same safety and respect as Croatian citizens.

"Our economy needs them. Croatia depends more on their efforts in tourism, construction, and services. They deserve the same safety and dignity as all of us," said Božinović.

The Minister’s remarks come in response to recent attacks on foreign workers in Split, which he described as shocking violations of human dignity. He condemned the incidents, asserting that violence and discrimination against foreign workers are intolerable.

Božinović also emphasized the need for Croatia to be a society where everyone, regardless of background, can live and work safely.

Croatia’s Efforts to Strengthen Protections and Rights for Foreign Workers

Croatian authorities have recently announced plans to improve conditions for foreign workers. Among these measures is a provision allowing foreign workers to receive compensation for up to 60 days if their employment ends, providing time to find new jobs within Croatia and reducing the risk of exploitation.

Authorities also aim to extend the duration of work permits from one year to three years, further supporting foreign workers' stability and security in Croatia.
