Croatia Seeks Foreign Professionals for These Jobs: Are You Qualified?

Key Points to Consider:

1. Croatia Seeks Foreign Professionals for These Critical Sectors: Construction, Skilled Trades, Food Production, Hospitality, and IT.
2. By the end of May 2024, Croatia had over 88,300 unemployed individuals compared to approximately 125,000 available job positions.
3. The European Commission’s earlier assessment highlighted Croatia's ineffective labor policies in addressing these shortages.

Croatia is currently experiencing shortages in 30 key occupations, according to the 2023 EURES Report on labor shortages and surpluses. Industries most affected include construction, skilled crafts, food production, hospitality, and information technology.

These shortages present opportunities for foreign workers interested in settling in Croatia. The European Labour Authority’s recent findings pinpoint specific shortage occupations, such as building construction laborers, truck drivers, electricians, mechanics, and IT professionals.

As of May 2024, Croatia had more job openings than unemployed individuals, with over 88,300 people registered as unemployed and nearly 125,000 job vacancies reported. Despite this apparent balance, around 36,700 positions remained unfilled.

However, the European Commission’s report underscores that Croatia’s labor market policies are inadequate in effectively addressing these needs. It notes that labor shortages in late 2022 surpassed pre-pandemic levels across all sectors, indicating a persistent mismatch between policy measures and market demands.

Moreover, the EURES report identifies several surplus occupations in Croatia, including hotel receptionists, general secretaries, office clerks, photographers, economists, and designers. Prospective applicants for these roles may face heightened competition in the job market.
