Deutsche Bahn ticket prices set to rise starting December 15
Deutsche Bahn Announces Ticket Price Increases Starting December 15, 2024
Deutsche Bahn has revealed that ticket prices for long-distance trains will rise when the company implements its winter timetable on December 15, 2024.
Ticket Price Hike Details
Deutsche Bahn has confirmed plans to raise certain ticket prices from December 15. The cost of a Flexpreis ticket will increase by an average of 5.9%, while “Zeitkarten” (weekly or monthly public transport passes) will also see a 5.9% rise.
The BahnCard 100 subscription will go up by 6.6%, but there will be no price changes for the BahnCard 50 and BahnCard 25.
However, prices for Deutsche Bahn’s discounted Sparpreis (21.99 euros) and Supersparpreis (17.99 euros) long-distance train tickets will remain unchanged. The company noted that 80% of its customers use these Sparpreis and Supersparpreis tickets, which require early booking.
Deutschlandticket to Rise to 58 Euros in 2025
This price hike follows an earlier announcement from German transport ministers, who decided to increase the cost of the Deutschlandticket from 49 euros to 58 euros per month starting January 1, 2025. Launched in May 2023, the Deutschlandticket provides unlimited access to public transport and regional trains across Germany.
“With this price, we can keep the ticket appealing while ensuring more stable financing,” said Oliver Kirschner, Transport Minister for North Rhine-Westphalia (Greens), in late September.
If you wish to keep your Deutschlandticket in 2025, no action is required. However, be prepared for higher monthly subscription payments from Deutsche Bahn starting in December 2024.
