Foreign nationals with a French residence permit will now receive two notifications regarding its renewal.

Here are the key points:

1. France will now issue two notifications to foreigners requiring renewal of their residence permits.
2. The initial notification will be dispatched approximately four weeks before the permit's expiration, followed by a second notification around nine weeks before expiration.
3. Through these notifications, France aims to prevent lapses and prompt foreigners to complete their renewal procedures promptly.

Foreigners residing in France holding French residence permits will receive advanced notifications from authorities prompting them to renew their permits.

The Directorate General for Foreigners (DGE) has introduced a new tool under the experimental program PERSée, aimed at informing foreigners about the renewal of their residence permits.

According to officials, the primary objective of this tool is to mitigate breaches and prevent adverse consequences for foreigners who fail to renew their residence permits promptly.

Under the updated protocol, foreigners with residence permits processed through France's digital foreign administration will receive two notifications via mail and SMS regarding the permit's expiration and the deadline for renewal.

The initial automated notification will be dispatched four months before the permit's expiration, followed by a second notification approximately nine weeks before the expiry date.

This innovative digital system facilitates automatic and simultaneous notifications via SMS and email, with the first alert issued four months before the permit's expiration and the second notification sent two months and one week before expiry.

The Northern Prefect of France emphasized that the primary goal of this tool is to prompt foreigners to apply for permit renewal within the stipulated timeframe, thereby reducing instances of breach and minimizing the necessity for provisional documentation.

Foreigners possessing a French residence permit are restricted from submitting renewal requests more than four months in advance, while the latest permissible time for renewal requests is two months and one week before expiry.

In order to circumvent any potential disruptions and safeguard foreigners with French residence permits from job loss or suspension of social benefits upon document expiration, French authorities view this new tool as the optimal solution.

Individuals who submit renewal requests for their residence permits after the document has lapsed are subject to a late fee of €180.
