Deutsche Bahn to Launch 17 New Train Connections to Poland
Deutsche Bahn Expands Train Services to Poland with New December Timetable
Berlin, September 2025 – Deutsche Bahn has announced a significant expansion of its rail services to Poland, with a new timetable taking effect on 14 December 2025.
Under the updated schedule, the German operator, in cooperation with Polish State Railways (PKP), will increase the number of direct cross-border connections from 11 to 17 daily services.
New Connections Between Germany and Poland
Highlights of the expansion include:
-
A new direct route between Leipzig, Wrocław and Kraków, operating twice daily.
-
Seven daily direct trains between Berlin and Warsaw.
-
Two new EuroCity night trains: one linking Berlin, Wrocław, Kraków and Przemyśl; the other connecting Berlin, Łódź, Warsaw and Chełm.
For travellers departing from Munich, Nuremberg or Frankfurt, the new services will reduce journey times to Poland by up to two hours.
Responding to Rising Demand
Deutsche Bahn says the expansion reflects growing demand for cross-border rail travel. The operator is also investing in other international routes.
Earlier this year, Deutsche Bahn joined forces with Austria’s ÖBB and Italy’s Trenitalia to announce a new high-speed night train linking Germany with Austria and Italy, set to launch in 2026. This project forms part of the European Commission’s “European Metro” initiative, which aims to make long-distance train travel more attractive and reduce reliance on short-haul flights.
Meanwhile, competition for new Channel Tunnel services has intensified since Eurostar’s monopoly ended. Multiple operators, including Virgin Group, Gemini Trains, Evolyn, Swiss Railways (SBB), and Italy’s FS Italiane, are exploring direct links between the UK, Germany, and Switzerland. Deutsche Bahn has also expressed interest in entering this market.
