Germany has been ranked as the second-best European country for university education
According to student reviews compiled by The Campus Advisor, Germany has been recognized as the second-best European country for higher education, trailing behind only the UK.
The Campus Advisor's 2024 Higher Education Ranking
The Campus Advisor, a platform enabling students to assess and provide feedback on various aspects of university life such as courses, campus facilities, and academic staff, has positioned Germany as the second-best European country for higher education.
The ranking took into account student perspectives on education quality, student living costs, career prospects, student diversity, social opportunities, and artistic and cultural experiences to determine the top 15 countries in Europe for higher education in 2024.
Leading the list was the United Kingdom, which received an impressive rating of 4.79 out of 5 for education quality based on student feedback. The UK scored between 4.53 and 4.80 in all categories except for "student living costs," where it garnered 3.54 points.
One significant aspect not emphasized in the survey, impacting "student living costs," was tuition fees. In England and Wales, domestic students pay £9,000 annually for undergraduate studies, while international students face fees ranging from £11,400 to £38,000 per year, comprising 24 percent of the student population.
The Campus Advisor Recognizes Germany as the Second-Best Study Destination
In contrast, Germany's tuition fee structure received considerable praise from student respondents. "The low tuition fees in Germany, especially compared to other study destinations, are highly appealing," noted one reviewer.
Germany achieved an overall score of 4.41 out of 5, particularly excelling in student career prospects and social opportunities. "Studying in Germany, particularly in Berlin, has been an amazing experience, largely owing to the city's vibrant nightlife," remarked one respondent. In November 2023, The Campus Advisor also named Berlin the second-best city globally for students.
While students benefit from affordable public transport, dining facilities, and sports amenities, affordable student housing is becoming scarce in Germany - a concern overlooked by The Campus Advisor ranking. With Germany facing its worst housing shortage in two decades, students, particularly those in major cities, are disproportionately affected. Many commence the academic year without securing accommodation.
