Italy Inaugurates Bengaluru Visa Application Centre
Italy has launched a new Schengen visa application centre in Bengaluru, India, aiming to better serve Indian nationals amid growing interest in travel to Italy.
The centre, inaugurated by the Consul General of Italy in Bengaluru, Alfonso Tagliaferri, in partnership with VFS Global, is designed to enhance the quality of visa services. Tagliaferri emphasized that the facility will offer applicants a less crowded and more personalized experience while enabling the Italian authorities to process the increasing number of visa applications more efficiently.
"This new centre will allow us to significantly enhance the quality of services, offering a smoother and more efficient application process for Indian citizens planning their trips to Italy," Tagliaferri said.
Additionally, he highlighted that the implementation of the Italy-India Partnership Agreement on Mobility and Migration is expected to further increase visa applications.
Yummi Talwar, VFS Global’s Chief Operating Officer for South Asia, remarked that the Bengaluru centre is key to meeting the rising demand for Italian Schengen visas.
"This facility will effectively handle the growing interest in Italy as a top travel destination," Talwar stated.
Italy Processes Over 44,800 Schengen Visas for Indian Applicants in 2023
According to Schengen visa statistics, Indian nationals submitted 52,332 applications to Italy in 2023, with 44,833 visas granted and 7,445 applications rejected.
India ranks third among countries with the highest Schengen visa application numbers, with 966,687 submissions to all Schengen states in 2023. Switzerland, France, and Germany topped the list for granting visas to Indian travelers, issuing 166,919, 146,938, and 118,919 visas, respectively.
The new Bengaluru centre is expected to further improve processing times and cater to the growing number of Indian travelers choosing Italy as a destination.
