In 2023, Chinese citizens submitted a total of 143,648 applications for Italian Schengen visas. Of these, Italy approved 136,155, while 7,321 applications were rejected.

In addition to Italy, China’s most popular Schengen destination was France, with Chinese nationals filing 271,111 French Schengen visa applications last year. France granted 251,964 visas, rejecting 14,005.

Spain ranked third in popularity for Chinese applicants, with 148,533 Spanish Schengen visa applications in 2023. Spain approved 139,150 of these applications and rejected 6,523.

China topped the list for the highest number of Schengen visa applications last year, ahead of Turkey and India.
