As of April 1, 2024, Indians interested in visiting Japan can apply for eVisas through VFS Global. This eVisa permits a short-term stay of up to 90 days in Japan and is exclusively for tourism purposes. Instead of receiving a visa sticker affixed to their passports, applicants receive an electronic visa. Upon airport check-in, travelers must display a “visa issuance notice” on their mobile devices.
What is a “visa issuance notice.”
The Japan eVisa requires a “visa issuance notice” containing a 2D barcode, which travelers must present upon arrival at the airport. This notice must be presented digitally on a mobile device and cannot be submitted in any other format, such as a screenshot, photograph, PDF, or printed copy.
Steps to display “visa issuance notice.”
- Step 1: Present the “visa issuance notice” on your mobile device during airport check-in. The travel agency will provide a printed "Visa Issuance Notice" with a 2D barcode.
- Step 2: Scan the 2D barcode with your mobile device and input the necessary information to display the notice.
- Step 3: Once all details are entered, tap “Display.” The electronic "visa issuance notice" will appear on your mobile device. Additionally, a countdown timer will indicate the validity of your notice.
