The Lahore airport fire has resulted in delays for international and Hajj flights.
A fire erupted in the lounge area of Lahore airport, causing chaos and disrupting numerous international flights, including the inaugural Hajj journeys. Emergency teams responded swiftly, containing the blaze and ensuring the safety of individuals. However, smoke from the fire, originating in the ceiling of the immigration counter, filled the lounge, leading to the evacuation of passengers.
The incident, reported by Aaj News, showed images of billowing smoke, depicting the chaotic scene. Airport authorities deployed a specialized team to investigate the cause of the fire, noting significant damage to the immigration counter. Flight schedules were affected, with delays observed in the first Hajj departure and five other international flights, including Qatar Airways flight QR 629.
Despite concerns, incoming international flights continued to be routed to Lahore airport without diversions, as no emergency declaration was issued by airport authorities. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) assured the public that international flight operations were managed from the domestic departure lounge, with the situation stemming from a short circuit under control by early morning.
Currently, Hajj and international flights are being accommodated through domestic facilities, with plans to resume regular domestic flight operations soon. The spokesperson emphasized the prioritization of seamless immigration processes for arriving flights, minimizing disruption amid the aftermath of the incident, as reported by Aaj News.
