NEET-UG Paper Leak: Amid CBI Arrests, AIIMS Patna Director Warns of Action if Students Are Found Guilty
Following the recent arrests of students by the CBI, Dr. Gopal Krushna Pal, Director of AIIMS Patna, stated that the institute will take appropriate action if the students are found guilty.
On Thursday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four medical students from AIIMS Patna in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. Dr. Pal confirmed the arrests, stating, "The report that the CBI has arrested these students is accurate. We have received confirmation from the CBI that our four students have been formally arrested. However, we have not yet received any official written documentation."
Dr. Pal continued, "We held an administrative committee meeting today to discuss the situation. It was decided that while the students could be suspended, this decision will be pending legal advice. We are holding off on the suspension order until we receive written confirmation from the CBI."
The Director further explained, "We will wait until the CBI provides written confirmation of the students' judicial custody before taking any action. Since this is a significant matter affecting their careers, we will not make any decisions regarding their suspension until they are proven guilty."
According to CBI sources, the accused—Karan Jain, Kumar Sanu, Rahul Anand, and Chandan Singh—were reportedly solving papers for the main suspect, Pankaj Singh. All accused have been placed in four days of CBI custody.
The CBI also arrested Pankaj Kumar Singh and Raju Singh on July 16 in Patna and Hazaribagh, respectively. A senior CBI official revealed that Pankaj managed to steal the question paper while it was being transported in a sealed iron trunk. Pankaj, a civil engineer, had completed his degree at NIT Jamshedpur.
