- A total of 167 visa offices and embassies are now connected to the system, significantly easing the application process.
Germany has launched the Consular Services Portal to enhance the process for national visa applications, including work, study, and family reunification visas. This digital platform aims to reduce waiting times at consular offices and eliminate unnecessary travel associated with the application process.
The new system marks a significant step forward in modernizing Germany’s visa procedures. The Foreign Minister described it as a “revolutionary” development that not only simplifies administrative processes but also strengthens Germany's appeal as a global business hub.
Streamlined Process for Global Applicants
Currently, 167 visa offices and embassies are linked to the Consular Services Portal. Plans are underway to expand the digitalized process internationally, enabling applicants worldwide to submit their visa applications online.
Addressing Labour Shortages with Digital Innovation
The platform is part of Germany’s broader efforts to combat critical labour shortages. With approximately 400,000 skilled worker vacancies, the Foreign Affairs Office (BAA) has been working for over two years to develop this digital solution, piloting it at three visa application centers before its full-scale launch.
Germany has also expanded its work visa capacity. A recent agreement with India increased the quota for skilled Indian workers from 20,000 to 90,000. In total, the issuance of work visas has risen by 22,422 to meet growing market demands.
Improved Pathways for Skilled Migrant Workers
Germany continues to refine its policies to attract skilled migrant workers. Under the Skilled Immigration Act and the newly introduced Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte), migrants can now enter Germany with minimal requirements, such as basic German language skills, a university degree, or two years of professional experience.
These efforts position Germany as a leading destination for international talent, ensuring the workforce needed to sustain its economic growth.
