France remains the top destination for Schengen visa applications.

France maintains its position as the leading recipient of Schengen visa applications globally. According to Schengen Visa Statistics, France received a total of 2,625,846 visa applications in 2023. Notably, Morocco and Algeria accounted for 310,057 and 279,005 applications, respectively. The top five countries submitting applications to France were China (271,111), India (176,237), and Saudi Arabia (145,096).

Germany Reclaims Second Place:

After falling to third place in 2022 due to visa restrictions on Russian citizens, Germany returned to the second position in 2023. It received 1,459,560 visa applications. The top five countries contributing to Germany's applications were Türkiye (253,462), China (160,479), India (132,825), Belarus (52,301), and Egypt (46,991).

Spain and Italy Attract Millions:

Spain and Italy consistently rank among the top destinations for Schengen visa applicants. Spain received 1,413,222 applications in 2023, with Morocco (189,126) and China (148,533) leading the pack. Meanwhile, Italy processed 1,108,035 visa applications, with China (143,648) and Russia (143,517) being the top contributors.

The Netherlands Joins the Top 5:

For the first time in years, the Netherlands joined the top five Schengen visa recipient countries. Dutch visa centers worldwide handled 669,291 applications in 2023. Notable contributors included Türkiye (93,870), India (83,556), and Indonesia (52,276). Additionally, China and the Philippines submitted 50,983 and 45,224 applications, respectively.
