Lockheed introduces the Polish F-35 'Husarz' combat aircraft.
Lockheed Martin has unveiled the F-35 stealth combat aircraft being produced for Poland at the company's aeronautics headquarters in Texas. The ceremony, attended by Polish and US officials, showcased the Polish version of the aircraft, named "Husarz" after Poland's famed "Winged Hussar" heavy cavalry units active from the 16th to the 18th century.
"The Hussars' renowned speed, precision, and tactical innovations on horseback enabled them to defend their homeland," Lockheed Martin stated at the unveiling. "Polish warriors will soon employ those same qualities with a faster animal: the world’s most advanced stealth fighter jet."
Polish Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk highlighted Poland's strategic position at the event, noting, "Poland is the only country in the world that shares borders with Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine. To keep the borders intact, we need the best equipment, the best capabilities, and the best friends."
He also praised the F-35, saying, "The F-35 is the best fighter plane in the world, and we are very proud that Poland is becoming part of the elite and joining the great F-35 family," expressing gratitude to the US government and Congress for their support in securing the deal.
US Congressman Marc Veasey, representing Texas's 33rd district, emphasized the importance of supporting eastern NATO allies, stating that this assistance could help prevent Russia's war in Ukraine from spreading further into Europe, as reported by the Breaking Defense news website.
