Qatar Airways places order for 20 additional Boeing 777-9 passenger jets
Qatar Airways has announced an order for 20 additional Boeing 777-9 aircraft under a new agreement signed at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, bringing its total 777X order to 94 commercial and cargo planes. This latest deal also includes 40 GE9X engines, which are touted as the world’s most powerful and fuel-efficient.
The Qatari flag carrier revealed the expanded order in a news release on Tuesday, adding to its existing purchase of 40 Boeing 777-9 jets. These aircraft will feature the newly unveiled Qsuite Next Gen Business Class cabins, introduced at the same event.
Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, highlighted the airline’s commitment to innovation and quality, emphasizing that the fleet remains among the youngest in the industry.
Russell Stokes, GE Aerospace President and CEO for Commercial Engines and Services, expressed enthusiasm for the GE9X engines, noting their significant role in supporting Qatar Airways' expansion.
The announcement follows the debut of the Qsuite Next Gen, which includes advanced features such as movable monitors with Bluetooth and companion suites. Qatar Airways originally launched the Qsuite in March 2017, marking a significant upgrade in Business Class with the introduction of double beds for a more luxurious and private experience.
