Key Points Rephrased

  2. Authorities remind applicants that they can submit visa requests up to six months before their planned travel date.
  3. Some Schengen countries currently have shorter appointment wait times.

Russian Nationals Advised to Apply for Schengen Visas Early to Avoid Delays

Russian nationals planning trips to the Schengen Zone during the spring and summer seasons are being encouraged to apply for their visas as early as possible to prevent last-minute delays.

Tour operators warn that as peak travel seasons approach, securing a visa appointment will become increasingly challenging.

Given this, Russians are reminded that Schengen member states allow visa applications up to six months before the intended departure date, making early submission highly advisable.

"Schengen countries accept applications 180 days prior to the travel date. If travelers wish to visit Europe in spring or early summer, now is the time to prepare and submit their visa applications."

Increased Demand for Schengen Visas Expected

According to the Russian Association of Tour Operators, a surge in Schengen visa applications is anticipated from late March through September.

To avoid long wait times and take advantage of quicker processing, travelers are encouraged to apply during off-peak months when visa centers are less crowded.

Fastest Schengen Visa Processing Times for Russians

Recent data from the Association of Tour Operators suggests that while Schengen visa processing in Moscow has returned to near pre-pandemic levels, appointment availability and processing speeds vary by country.

Experts from BSI Group highlight that Italy currently offers the fastest visa processing for Russians, with appointment slots available within 7–10 days. Once biometrics and interviews are completed, Italian visas are typically issued within 2–3 weeks.

France and Spain also process visas relatively quickly, but appointment availability is more limited. The French visa center in Moscow is currently fully booked until late March, while Spain’s slots for the second half of February will soon open. Both countries typically process visas within three weeks.

Additionally, Greece is issuing visas in approximately seven working days, making it another favorable option for Russian travelers.
