Storm Ciaran Expected to Result in Additional Flight Disruptions and Cancellations Between EU and UK.

Storm Ciaran is anticipated to disrupt travel arrangements for numerous individuals traveling between the UK and Europe, leading to ongoing cancellations and delays for the next 48 hours.

Reports from British local media indicate that over 100 UK flights have been canceled, with sea transportation, particularly across the Channel, experiencing even more significant disruptions. Authorities have temporarily halted crossings from Dover to Calais and Dunkirk.

Rail travel to Europe from the UK will also have its lows, with some rail links closing due to expected storms and some others because of fallen trees or flooding.

Around 100 Flights Cancelled or Delayed from UK

Travelers to Europe are being advised to check their flights’ status before traveling as there can be cancellations due to the railway between Guildford and Gatwick airport shutting down from November 11 to November 17.

British Airways and the Dutch airline KLM have canceled around 100 flights between them, which included routes to, from, and within the UK.

In addition, the British airline has canceled even more short-haul flights at Heathrow and grounded some 40 domestic and European flights. Guernsey and Alderney airports are also not operating their services until further notice.

Flights Operated by KLM From the UK Are Most Affected

As per Europe, two round trips to Amsterdam, Belfast City, Brussels, Glasgow and Paris CDG have also been cancelled.

KLM has also cancelled dozens of flights between Schiphol and the UK airports due to reduced capacity at the Amsterdam airport.

Due to the expected weather conditions at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the runway capacity has been reduced on Thursday, November 2. As a result, some of our flights have been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience.

KLM

All routes served between the UK, and KLM have had some flights grounded, with the total number of flights to and from Amsterdam being affected by such inconveniences reaching around 50.

Although KLM offered hotels and meals for affected passengers until they reached their destinations, it is always recommended for travellers to Europe to purchase travel insurance. By having insured travel, inconveniences like flight cancellations, delays or even natural disasters can protect travellers from excessive expenses.

Some of the best deals for affordable travel insurance can be found at AXA Travel Insurance, Europ Assistance, Allianz Travel Insurance, Mondial Care, Mutuaide and DR-WALTER.

Rail & Sea Transport Also to Experience Cancellations

In general, rail trips in the UK are quite impacted by the storm, with six routes in the Southeastern region and another four in the Southwest being cancelled while those in London underground and transport to Wales were closed but can return to functionality today.

Delays and cancellations between Newcastle and Carlisle due to speed restrictions.

Furthermore, most Channel sailings have been suspended, including Irish ferries and ferries between the UK and France, at least until Friday-mid day. In addition, UK-Spain trips planned to cross the Bay of Biscay were cancelled on Thursday, while sailings to and from Jersey by Condor Ferries will not return until Saturday.
