The Top Ten EU Cities with the Best Safety Ratings
According to Think Europe Services, smaller cities like Oviedo, Spain, and Ljubljana, Slovenia, rank second and third, respectively, in terms of safety within the region. Bialystok, Poland; Groningen, Netherlands; and Zurich, Switzerland, follow closely as the fourth, fifth, and sixth safest cities in Europe, just one percentage point behind the top three.
These cities garnered high safety ratings from 86 percent of respondents. Southern member states generally rated lower in safety compared to northern member states, with 63% of respondents in the south feeling safe, contrasting with 82% in the north.
Cities like Rome and Athens, however, scored lower safety perceptions, with only 38% and 40% respectively, despite being popular tourist destinations. Conversely, Aalborg, Denmark, leads the top ten safest cities list with 85% of residents feeling safe at night and 87% expressing trust in fellow residents.
Other cities like Braga, Portugal, and Luxembourg's Braga secure the ninth and tenth spots with 84% and 83% of locals, respectively, perceiving safety. Perception of safety varies significantly within countries like France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechia, Greece, Italy, Romania, and Turkey, with disparities observed between cities.
