The German Ambassador to China Patricia Flor has shared good news regarding visa applications for Chinese travellers.

The Ambassador revealed that the waiting time for a German Schengen visa appointment at the embassy of Beijing has been reduced.

According to Ambassador Flor, the current waiting period for an appointment is only a few days, ensuring a fast and smooth process for all Chinese applicants.

We have good news for everyone who wants to travel to Germany: Currently, the waiting period for a visa appointment at the embassy in Beijing or with our partner VFS Global is only a few days.

Regarding further facilitations for nationals of China applying for a visa to enter Germany or any other Schengen Area country, Ambassador Flor said that this is not possible.

The Ambassador stressed that Germany can not make a facilitation decision on its own as a joint agreement between Schengen member countries needs to be made.

Facilitations for Chinese nationals travelling to Germany and Europe are only possible through a joint decision of all members of the European Schengen Agreement.

Despite Ambassador Flor saying that the waiting time for an appointment has been reduced, several applicants complained about the system.

A user of the social media platform X named Richard Jia Li called the appointment system a “lottery” as according to the user you never know when you will be able to find an available slot.

The current appointment booking system is a lottery, you never know when you will get one. Please allow people to wait. Or, allow people to apply at other German consulates. There is plenty of room there.

A Chinese PhD student also complained about the current rules. The student who goes under the name WIT on the X platform and who will be going to the University of Cologne for an exchange visit said that they have been waiting for a decision on their application for four months now.

This is not only my situation, but all international students visiting Germany have this difficulty. I hope you can help us to speed up the process. Because the waiting time from appointment to visa delivery has now reached a staggering seven months!

While some Chinese citizens have complained about the current visa rules that Germany has, China has decided to allow visa-free travel for German travellers.

The Chinese authorities have said that from December 1, 2023 citizens of Germany and citizens of another 4 EU countries will be exempt from the requirement to apply for a visa when staying in the country for tourism, business, family visits, or transit purposes for up to 15 days.
