Over 650 Individuals Subject to Schengen Alerts Found in Romania Last Week

A total of 780 people subject to Schengen Information System (SIS) alerts were detected by Romanian police and partners in other countries for a period between November 10 and November 16, according to the announcement of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police (IGPR).

Of the total, 653 people were found in Romania, while 127 persons wanted by authorities in Bucharest were identified by foreign partners on their territories.

IGPR said that during the same period, a total of 70 vehicles and 39 documents were also subject to the Schengen Information System alerts.

The General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police said police officers in Romania executed 17 European warrants and detected a total of 87 people flagged by the member states as being prohibited from entering the Schengen Zone. A total of 221 people were wanted in order to participate in a judicial procedure, while 12 people were reported as missing by partners in the Schengen Zone countries.

As for those wanted by authorities in Romania and detected by partners in other countries, 26 of them were pursued by the Romanian Police under European arrest warrants, 20 were reported by the EU Member States as having been banned from reaching or staying in EU’s Schengen Zone, and another 23 were wanted for participating in judicial procedure, and six were reported missing by authorities in Romania.

Besides, foreign partners detected 12 documents and three vehicles in their territory that were wanted by authorities in Romania to be confiscated or used as evidence in criminal proceedings.

Last month, authorities in Romania reported that for a period between October 13 and October 19, 758 people were subject to Schengen Information System (SIS) alerts.

In addition, in the same period, 54 vehicles and 44 documents were subject to the same alerts.

Thus, 542 persons were located on the territory of our country who are the subject of alerts in the SIS (Schengen Information System), following the additional exchange of information through the SIRENE Bureau of the Center for International Police Cooperation – the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police.

It contains over 40 million alerts related to people and objects, permitting the authorities to share and manage information regarding missing and wanted persons as well as irregular attempts of people planning to reach the Schengen Zone countries.
